Kindergarten Preparedness

Kindergarten PreparednessEagle Valley Child Care Association strives to ensure that our students are ready for their formal educational years. In your child’s last year of preschool, he/she will enter our Pre-K Enrichment Group.  This group meets daily to focus on Kindergarten Preparedness.  In the fall of your child’s Pre-K year, each school will host an open house to discuss the Pre-K program and outline our goals and objectives for the year.

Our goals for Kindergarten Preparedness are:

  • Pre-Literacy Skills: letter recognition, phonemic awareness
  • Pre-Writing Skills: writing practice, awareness of appropriate letter formation per Eagle County School District Handwriting Without Tears program
  • Social Emotional Skills: follow routines, responsive to direction, work collaboratively with peers, comfortable with parent separation, problem solving, and responsibility for personal needs
  • Math Skills: number recognition, one to one correspondence, patterns, shapes, colors, etc.
  • Motor Skills: pencil grip, scissor use, etc.

In 2009, Eagle Valley Child Care Association participated with the School Readiness Committee to create objectives that Eagle County Schools would like to see in incoming Kindergarteners. The “Getting Ready for Kindergarten: Ready? Set? Go?” is a publication of the Eagle County School District.  This brochure outlines objectives for success for incoming Kindergarteners in Language and Reading, Social Emotional Skills, and General Knowledge and Motor Skills.
